Pre-purchase car inspection in Doncaster, before you hand over the cash
Buying a used car is a big decision, and most of what matters cannot be seen from the seller’s drive. A mobile pre-purchase inspection means an independent mechanic goes to the car, wherever it is, checks it properly and tells you what you are really buying. You get an honest opinion from someone who has no interest in whether the sale goes ahead.
Whether you are looking at a private sale in a village or a car on a dealer’s forecourt, we can arrange to meet you there. The seller’s agreement is needed, and most genuine sellers are happy to allow it.
What we check and why it matters
We work through the car methodically, so nothing is missed. The inspection covers:
- bodywork and paint, looking for signs of accident repair, rust and uneven panel gaps
- underneath the car, including the exhaust, brake lines, suspension components and any fluid leaks
- tyres, brakes and wheels, including age, wear patterns and brake disc condition
- engine bay: oil condition, coolant, belts, hoses and signs of poor maintenance
- a diagnostic scan for stored and cleared fault codes
- interior condition, electrics, warning lights and air conditioning
- a short road test to listen for noises and assess steering, gearbox and clutch feel
Service history and paperwork matter too. We look at whether the mileage and the wear on the car tell the same story.
How a mobile inspection visit works
Send us the details of the car and where it is. We agree a time that suits you and the seller, usually between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday, with same-day slots sometimes available if a car is likely to sell quickly. We need a reasonably level, safe place to look at the car, and daylight helps. If it is raining we still carry out the inspection, though we may ask to look at paint in better conditions.
You are welcome to be there, and we will happily explain what we find as we go. If you cannot attend, we explain the results clearly afterwards. Inspections vary with the car, but allow around an hour or a little more.
Afterwards you receive a plain-English summary of what we found: what is fine, what needs attention soon, what could be expensive and whether it is a sensible buy at the asking price. That gives you facts to negotiate with, or a good reason to walk away.
Used cars around Doncaster: what to look out for
Doncaster’s position at the meeting of major roads means many cars here have covered serious mileage on the A1(M), M18 and M180. High mileage is not a problem if the car has been looked after, but it should be backed by evidence, and we look for signs of wear to the clutch, suspension and engine that match the odometer.
Cars that have spent winters outdoors and on salted roads can hide corrosion under the sills, subframes and exhaust, and we check those areas properly. Vehicles from rural addresses may show more stone chips and damage from lanes with potholes, while an ex-company car could have a long motorway life but a regular service record. Cars that have mostly done short town trips can have clogged diesel particulate filters or tired batteries, so we scan for those too.
Because Doncaster is a large town with a mix of private sellers and traders, a common pitfall is buying a car with a recent, convincing clean-up that hides trouble. An inspection looks beyond the polish.
What can follow an inspection
If the report is clean, you can buy with confidence. If it finds minor issues, we can quote for putting them right, which may give you a basis for negotiating the price. A car with tired brakes might need new pads and discs, a worn clutch may need a clutch replacement, and an unknown service history is a good reason to book a full service once you have bought it. For cars with a timing belt, we check whether a cambelt change is due, since a car with no evidence of one can be a costly risk.
If you want us to take a closer look at one specific worry, such as a warning light, we can add diagnostics to the visit.
Inspections across Doncaster and beyond
We travel to cars across Doncaster and up to 20 miles around, including Balby, Bessacarr, Cantley, Scawsby, Tickhill, Rossington and Mexborough. If the car is a little further out, ask and we will see what we can do.
We are fully insured and there is no deposit. Send the make, model and location through the free quote form, and we will agree a price and a time before we do anything.
