What a full service is for
A full service is the complete once-a-year (or every 12,000 miles or so) reset for your car. It includes everything in an interim service, then goes further: it replaces the parts that are designed to be renewed on a schedule and checks, in detail, the ones that are not. It is the best single thing you can do to avoid being stranded and to hold the car’s value.
Think of it as the difference between a quick glance and a proper inspection. The goal is not to find work for the sake of it. It is to make sure that when a belt, hose, fluid or filter is near the end of its life, you hear about it on a quiet Tuesday rather than on the hard shoulder.
What we change and check
The exact list depends on your make, model and mileage, but a full service with us generally covers the following:
- New engine oil and oil filter to the manufacturer’s specification
- Air filter and pollen or cabin filter inspected and replaced where needed
- Spark plugs on petrol cars, or the fuel filter on diesels, where due
- Brake pads, discs, pipes and fluid condition checked, with fluid tested for moisture
- Coolant strength and level, power steering and washer fluids topped up
- Tyres for tread, age and pressure, plus lights, wipers, horn and battery condition
- Visible suspension, steering joints, driveshaft gaiters, exhaust mounts and drive belts
You get a written report of what was done and what, if anything, will need attention at the next visit, so there are no surprises.
Full servicing at your door in Doncaster
Our van carries the tools, lifting equipment, diagnostic gear and filters needed, so you do not have to take the car anywhere. Once the quote is agreed, we arrange a time between 7am and 7pm, Monday to Saturday. We need a level, reasonably clear patch where the car can sit while we work. For most people that is the drive or the road outside. For flats and terraces in places like Hexthorpe or Balby, a quiet bay on the street works, and we can often work at your workplace car park too.
A full service takes longer than an interim, usually a couple of hours and sometimes more on bigger engines or where parts are awkward to reach. We work on the ground with proper trays and mats and take the old oil and parts away with us. If we find something extra that cannot wait, we ring you first, explain it plainly and agree the price before anything is done.
Doncaster miles and what they do to a car
The mix of driving here is unusual. Doncaster sits where several fast roads meet, and many drivers spend long stretches on the A1(M), M18 and M180 on their way to work. Steady motorway miles are kind to an engine but hard on tyres, brake fluid and wiper blades, and the fluids and filters are still ageing the whole time.
Then there is the heavy goods traffic on the main roads around the town, the stop-start of the retail parks and the lanes between the villages on the eastern side of the borough, where drainage ditches and farm vehicles leave potholes and mud. Winter gritting is a good thing for safety, but road salt gets into brake components, exhaust fixings and undersides. A full service is the point where we get under the car, look properly and deal with early corrosion before it spreads.
Joining up the work
A full service is a natural moment to sort out other jobs. If the report shows worn pads or scored discs, we can quote brakes and discs on the same visit. A drive belt or timing belt that is due can be dealt with through our cambelt and timing work, and a car that feels loose over bumps may need suspension and steering attention. In summer, many drivers add air-con regas at the same time so the cooling is ready for the first hot spell.
If your car only needs a lighter touch this time, an interim service is available, and if you are still unsure what condition it is in, a vehicle health check gives you a clear report first.
